Hardcore Gamer Test: Are You King of Geeks?

Default_picture
Saturday, June 05, 2010

A good nerd is always open to showing off how detailed their knowledge of video games really is. Gamespy knows this and is feeding our appetite for dork superiority with a pretty intensive test. A warning to all would-be geniuses: Some of the featured movies and games were made before the debut of Street Fighter 2, so you might be out of luck -- unless you cheat and use the internet, but what's the fun in that? [via Technabob]:

The test is split into sections to mimic an ACT or SAT including areas of math, RPG analogy, and getting past the annoying advertisement that pops up while you're answering. So if you get a perfect score, does that make you awesome or is it embarassing? You be the judge.

"50% Your Gaming Knowledge Level is: Average Gamer. You're a Jack-of-All-Games, but a master of none."

Could've done without the maths section (which I didn't even begin to attempt).

Apparently at 44% I only think Japanese games are worth playing... Okay some of these questions were so hard that I couldn't get the ones about the games that I've BEATEN. Also math section: totes unnecessary.

You have answered 14 of the 12 questions correctly.

60% New-School Gamer - Even though I'm pretty sure I did best on the questions about older games.

52% - average gamer.

Totally blew off the math section.

There are a number of unfair/false questions on that test. The Call of Duty math question makes no sense (as it is written), there were at least 2 good answers to the Mega Man question (although that's not how I played it) and the NES obviously had the capacity for larger numbers than 255 or high score lists couldn't exist.

@Daniel: I suspect that was just an over-simplified answer -- it was likely due to memory restrictions that made it impractical to allow the allocation of additional (memory) blocks to count the rupees; it would have been simpler to just go with the default size of an integer on the system (8 bits/0-255). I don't know much about the NES hardware, though, so I could be wrong.

58% - "Average Gamer." There were some tough questions in there.

68%, but I actually answered the math questions and got them all right.

@Daniel, the Call of Duty question made perfect sense to me.  18 players in the game, with 11 of them likely to insult you in one form or another (8+6-3) and 4 not saying anything, leaves 3 friendly gamers - but don't forget to subtract one for yourself!

I'm impressed I was capable of getting 72% quite honestly. I'll take Old-School Gamer any day of the week!

70% Old School: probably gamed for most of my life though my memory may be a bit rusty.

Cripes, what the heck is up with that math section? I understand the point of every section except math.

62% - wouldn't have done nearly as well if it wasn't for the math portion. Though, I fail to see how questions about MMO terms (of which I've never played) decide how hardcore I am (or even the math questions.)

It's obviously there for the traffic, but still.

Call me back when there's a quiz that isn't stacked with Final Fantasy trivia.

64% Too much Nintendo. I've only played a NES and SNES a few times, I had a Master System and Genesis.
