I've been debating how to do this for quite some time now, but there's no better time than the present, eh?

So, here goes:

My name is not J. Cosmo Cohen.

...phew! Glad I got that off my chest. Now, before you get too angry with me, allow me to elaborate. Please.

Just two years ago I had my identity stolen. The perpetrator had been using my social security number to do all manner of things I'm told, but luckily it hasn't affected me as much as it could have. I have no way of knowing whether the person was ever caught, as our "system" for catching identity thieves is basically a form to let authorities know that your identity has been stolen. It even says on the form it's just to let the proper people know of the theft, but they won't be able to contact you if they catch them or not. At least, that's the form I was directed to fill out.

I hope you can fathom why I'd be hesitant to facilitate my real name in the online space, and after much contemplation I've decided that it doesn't matter anymore. I owe it to the Bitmob staff and community to use my real name, as they've asked all of us to do countless times. Plus my identity has already been stolen, what more damage could possibly be done?

My apologies guys, I think I was just being overly cautious.

I also want everyone to know that anything I've ever written on Bitmob has been one-hundred percent true. I never fabricated anything, nor did I write something I would not have normally written. I've been myself, just by a different name.

In order to help amend this travesty I've decided to give away a game.

Yep, Final Fantasy IV. Brand spankin' new. I've decided to leave it up to the Bitmob staff as to how the contest gets underway, as I've tried to come up with something clever but just can't. Just email me with the winners info, okay? Obviously, I'll pay for the shipping costs.

One last thing. My real name, right? It's Chris Ross. But I figured since all you "know" me by Cosmo, I'd just go with Chris "Cosmo" Ross. Savy?

Thanks Bitmob, and I hope you guys understand!

I was hoping you were going to say you were actually John Davison and you were going to hire us all to work at GamePro.

Or maybe that you were Iron Man or something.

Chris Ross is a boring name compared to Cosmo, so I'm sticking to it. Also, those images were hilarious. Well done.

Beautiful is pushing it, Evan. You've got a pretty huge cameltoe.

Haha, Cosmo! I never expected this. It's understandable though -- I actually used to know someone who did that shit and now he's trying to become a cop...

Anyway, it's cool to know your identity Chris, although I still really like the name Cosmo (partly because of FFVII and someone I met on Starcraft long ago). Anyway it's good to see you back!

Sorry about the identity theft, that's awful. I'm glad that you're comfortable enough here to use your real name though!

I've suffered from ID theft as well -- case going on right now, and I'm eager to testify soon about the hell the bastards put me through. So I think we can let this fly, Chris.

Until I actually meet someone, their real name is just a less creative screen name to me anyways. I still love you for creating Game Club and making me less redundant, so don't worry about it.

Wait, what about this poor J. Cosmo Cohen guy whose identity you've been using??

Just kidding. We still love you, Chrismo.

Also, I have a confession to make too. My real name is Pistol Hotrod.

I want to go to there.

I think the contest should be a renaming contest. Rename a video game so that it's more appropriate? Something like that.

Dun dun DUNNNNN!

I like that renaming idea.

I propose we retitle Final Fantasy IV "Final Fantasy II." That'd be a smart idea, right?

@Alex - If I was John Davison, I would give you all jobs.
And if I was Iron Man I would fly you to one destination of your choice, with the option of blowing it up included.

@Evan - I always hoped that was the case. You're on the American Apparel models, right?

Can't believe I missed this...been working too much the past couple of days.

I'm going on record as angry (not really).

Oh no! I've grown so accustomed to the SOUND of J. Cosmo Cohen! It just sounds RIGHT. I'm sure the situation of identity change and having people grow towards the fabricated identity has been done in some movie or book somewhere. I'm sad to see it go :-(

Seems like an "Oh" moment out of How I Met Your Mother. But the question is, how did you make up such a name?
