Hey, I'm still making my mash-up of hip-hop beats, Jay-Z, and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, appropriately named “Jay-Zelda: Beat's Awakening.” I've been working on it off-and-on for the past couple of years but recently decided that it's time to finally finish what I've started….
I went over the dozen or so tracks from the project -- most of which are about 50%-99% complete – and realized that a lot of these songs are too cool to let rot on an old external hard drive. So now, I've decided to polish up what I've got; weave it together into a continuous DJ-style mix; whip up some album art, liner notes, etc.; and release it sometime by late August.
I want the flow of the beats and remixes to play out like the Game Boy classic. Particularly, I think of how Link's adventures take him all over Koholint Island, and each location has a song that transitions into the next. Note that this isn't suppose to be some kind of definitive soundtrack that tells the whole story of the game or Jay-Z's musical career, but instead, I'm trying to craft my own reinterpretation of the two bodies of work.
Of course, no update would be complete without a sample, so for your listening pleasure, I've included three songs: "Roc's Feather" (the track that started the idea for this whole project), "Dirty Forest," and an instrumental titled "Cave."
If you want to hear the completed version, make sure to follow the Bitmob Twitter account (@Bitmob) and me (@Aquma), and I'll send out a message when I put it up on the site. Enjoy!
