News Blips: Ghost Recon Movie, End of Penny Arcade Adventures, Sonic 4 Not HD, and More

Did you see the live-action trailer for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier? It's not related to the project below, but still...invisibility cloaks!

News Blips:

Future Soldier LogoOscar-winning directors to create a short based on Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. Directors François Alaux and Hervé de Crécy, who won the best-short-film award for Logorama, have agreed to work on a prequel short to the next installment of Ubisoft's popular-shooter franchise. Tim Sexton, who was nominated for an Oscar for his work writing the adaptation of Children of Men, is on board to help write for this project. Wait, did that guy just beat out Tom Clancy for the gig? The Penny Arcade guys are discontinuing their episodic video game, Penny Arcade Adventures. In an interview with Joystiq, PA's Mike Krahulik explained that they made this decision due to lackluster sales of episode two and their developer, Hothead, placing more of a priority on its other game, DeathSpank. Krahulik teased that they will finish the story on the Penny Arcade website. This isn't quite the news I was expecting during the PAX East convention weekend.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 will not feature "full HD resolution," despite a mention of it on a promotional page for the game. Destructoid points out that among the features listed for the WiiWare version of Sonic 4 on a Nintendo webpage was one for HD resolution. When they pressed Sega on the issue, the company admitted that the listing was in error, and the game will not be in HD for the Wii --something that the system is incapable of doing anyway. Sorry Sega fans with Wiis -- maybe next generation.

Harmonix plans to release a variety of Jimi Hendrix songs for Rock Band on April 1. Besides classic songs from the "Axis: Bold As Love" record, the developer is also set to include the single "Valleys of Neptune," the title track from the recently released Hendrix album. What a perfect way to get your mind off of things in case someone pranks you really bad on April Fool's Day.
