Now maybe I am not one to talk, but then again I always say to much.  Maybe now is time to ask the question to you all.

Recently I did the two previews one for Darksiders and MUA 2.  How ever this got me thinking can one really do a good preview with out ever playing the game?  Yes I have see many game play videos and loads of information for each.  When I think about it more my gut tells me that it is wrong to write them.  As a reader I like to hear from people who have played the game.  So does one's knowledge about the product threw others and the facts they know good enough for a preview?
That is my question is a preview good enough for you even though the person has yet to play the game?  Also does it have to be noted that they have yet to play the game, but giving you the preview any way?

Definitely. If you have a lot of info on the game, or even better include a video, then I feel that is a good preview and worth my time reading.

Now check your email Toby, I need some help!!! :)

I tend to agree with Lance on that one. Ideally, a preview comes out before the game's release anyway.

Previews certainly fill a role in video games journalism.
Unless you're lucky enough to get a hands-on preview from the manufacturer, I'd just stick with the facts. Just tell me that the game exists, what features it has, what's new or innovative about it, and when it's coming out.

In my mind, previews are all about increasing public awareness of the game. I'd prefer you save the opinions and analysis for the review when the game is released.

Ultimately as long as the reader knows what they are reading I think it's worth writing. So as long as it's clear that you haven't played the game their is still someone who wants to read information about it without plumbing message boards or something to research it themselves.
