Editors note: This review was originally part of an application to become an editor at a particular website. Needless to say, I didn't get the job but I like to think that every failure has at least one minor inch of success and I present to you that (300 word) inch.

Hey there guys and gals and welcome to yet another review. Normally I would be reviewing a game currently in stores or a vintage retro title but I have just spent the past two hours playing a wonderful little flash game that I think you should all be playing.  Behold the combination of music and wonder that is Reflexive Entertainment’s: Music Catch.

The premise of game is actually quite simple. A variety of shapes fall from the bottom of the screen and it is up to the player to catch those shapes with their cursor. Seems simple right? Not quite. The developers decided to thrown in some pretty clever curve balls. For instance, yellow shapes increase the size of your cursor and purple shapes draw in other shapes to your cursor like a magnet.

However, while these two aspects can be a blessing, they can also prove to be a curse thanks to the devious red shapes. Red shapes can greatly decrease the size of your cursor, which will hinder your chances of getting a high score. Oh and to make matters more challenging, the screen is constantly tilting (so the fall pattern is always changing) and the falling shapes will always be drawn back down, so just because you dodged a red shape doesn’t mean that same shape won’t come back to bite you.

The game is fast paced but oddly enough, it is counterbalanced with a beautiful classical piano melody that makes Music Catch a unique blend of excitement and relaxation, if that makes any sense.

The only compliant I have is that there is only one level/song but hey, that won’t stop anyone from losing at least a good couple hours of productivity. Real life responsibilities/obligations be damned! Those shapes aren’t going to catch themselves.

Final Score: 8/10

Update: There are multiple versions of the game available for Mac, PC and iOS devices that feature a wider variety of shapes and also the ability to insert your own MP3s into the game.
