Disney Guilty Party and the Case of the Locked Review Copies

Last week I attended an event for the just-released Disney Guilty Party on the Wii. It's a minigame collection wrapped up in a Clue-inspired whodunnit, so the event organizers decided to have some fun handing out the review copies to journalists. Instead of handing them out as we left, they handed us a "Sleuth's Notebook" filled with clues that would lead us to the combination of an old-timey safe in the back, where the review copies were securely locked up.

The end result was a cross between a scavenger hunt and an Amazing Race Roadblock -- complete with a guard in character making sure people didn't cheat. And it was definitely the most bizarre way I've ever received a game for review.

Check out scans of the clues after the jump:

Mr. Valentine is your nemesis during the story portion of the game, causing all sorts of chaos for your sleuthing family. And those numbers? That's the code. Got it on my first try!

Scattered throughout the event space were Guilty Party-branded magnifying glasses, but those of us with a sharp eye could make out the clue without aid: "The Commodore ??? the pudding." If you play the prologue to the Guilty Party story, you'll find out the answer to that.

Behind one of the catering stations hung a large poster with the entire Guilty Party cast on it. Figuring out the right answer was a matter of counting and hoping that your perception of "thin" matched Disney's.

Oh, the clever wordplay! In the darkened corner of one of the rooms stood -- you guessed it -- a plant, decorated with postcards that contained the hint: "How many villains does an archnemesis make?" There can only be one Mr. Valentine...

Mirror, mirror, on the wall: What's 12-2?

There you have it: 83110 opened the safe!

It's this kind of thing that makes me wish I was a professional journalist, sometimes.

Guilty Party is making it's way to my house as I write this.  I've been looking forward to it, as I am both a video and board game junkie.  What puts it over the top is that my entire family is stoked for it as well.

Thanks for sharing Brett, even though it's jealousy inducing!

@Matthew: Best part about the Guilty Party: It's actually pretty fun! I've been playing it with my casual-gaming girlfriend, and she's liking it, too.
