Kojima Productions...Next?

Editor's Note: Matt here seems a little jaded on Metal Gear -- I can't say I blame him, but we're probably in the minority. And anything Kojima Productions is working on is of interest to a lot of people. Also, just so everyone knows, we'd really prefer it if you use your full, real name here on Bitmob. If you do, we're much more likely to look at your stories for promotion to the front page. But since we haven't had a chance to discuss this Famitsu ad yet, here we go.

Anyone want to share their theories on the stuff below? We're looking at you, fans of bats*** insane videogames. -Shoe

This is already old news by now, but in addition to yesterday's "T -3" thing, an image surfaced in the lastest Famitsu regarding Kojima Productions' next project. The full article is at 1UP; anyone have any clues or further info (or humorous musings) for what it is? In all honesty, I'm really not in the mood to hear about another Metal Gear game, it's way too soon. Even if it isn't technically a Solid game and is the next evolution of the franchise (which I'm hopeful it isn't), my interest is dead. The only possible things they could address right now would be revamps of Outer Heaven and Zanzibar Land (and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake doesn't need a remake).

Maybe it's something entirely new? God knows Kojima has repeatedly tried to get away from Metal Gear in order to establish something else entirely. Perhaps this is finally it?

Clearly this is going to be a weather prediction game starring a retired Snake and Octacon. The image in the magazine is the view from their porch. "Knee's flaring up again, Octacon. Storm's a-comin'." "I reckon yer right, Snake. My tinnitus is actin' up, too."

Wouldn't it be awesome if Kojima created a next gen Silent Hill entry? Thoughts? This is what came to mind when I saw the pic.

The lack of sun rules out another Boktai.

Also, Otacon will have changed his name to Octacon (he, um, married an octopus). *cough*

I am hoping it's going to be some sort of ZOE3 announcement, but judging from the ad, I just don't see how they could tie it to that series. Either way, I will keep a small amount of hope that it turns out to be that.

I'm think it's a MGS feature Raiden. Snake said something like this. "Raiden. You said you were born during a terrible Storm." "Yeah so" "You are the lightning in that storm." I'm hoping for something new or Zone of the Enders but Komani doesn't have any other bread & butter but Kojima Productions so why not milk it.

Also hoping for ZoE, but knowing Kojima it'll likely be something that no one predicts.

Metal Gear Solid tends to bring out the stupid in people. I remember the whole 'A next metal gear is' hoopla a few months ago that resulted in metal gear touch. In the speculation leading to it we got great fabrications like 'metal gear soda' (http://www.messageboardchampion.com/?p=307) and the notorious neogaf 'carnival of stupid' (http://www.messageboardchampion.com/?p=317)

I'm hoping for a completely new project as well - something that starts fresh without the baggage of the MGS series. If it is a game with Raiden at the center, I hope it at least breaks free from the tangled web of weird events, and tells a simpler story.

I'm hoping for the the fresh stuff myself. A Raiden title I at least wouldn't scoff at, but that in itself just makes me ponder about "Snake's Dream" from Snake Eater. I think a lot of people would be happy with a new Zone of the Enders, I just hope they don't announce something that runs the risk of generally being a fluffer for Metal Gear (e.g. the MG: Touch).

As much as I like the Metal Gear series, I do hope that this is an entirely new project. Call me pumped.

I can see a house on the right side of the picture, but other than that I just have no idea. Kojima Productions actually making Alan Wake? No idea.

I'm looking at it more, and on the left-hand side there's a silhouette of, it appears, a person and a smaller person (child?). The Road the game?

I think the Raiden theory would make sense, given the storm, and what Snake said. I don't necessarily think that the lack of sun rules out another Boktai, as Kojima likes to mix things up and suprise people. Of course, I would love for this to be something brand new. I remember there were rumors of a KojiPro FPS? Were those ever squashed? Regardless, I will play the shit out of whatever Kojima does next.

I really think Kojima needs to do something new. I'm a bit done with sequels in general; but it's a bit sad that the poor guy is known for only a couple of games. And only one is a major series, at that. I've been looking at that cloud image for a while; seeing if there's a hidden image...

Maybe it's MGS4 for 360. Maybe it's some game with Raiden. Maybe it's some other game about a gun toting chicken that finds meaning in fried breading through war and the loss of friends. Whatever it is, a few things are certain. 1. It will be overloaded with cutscenes because why let me play when I could watch movies. 2. It will hop on some kind of nonsensical soapbox and beat us over the heads with whatever Kojima feels like preaching about. 3. Without a doubt it will be completely overhyped and overrated by fanboys and journalists alike. Because seriously what exactly was so great about MGS4 and why is Kojima still considered relevant? I swear I'm not trolling or trying to start a flame war but I have been massively disappointed in everything the guy has touched since MGS1. That I will admit was a masterpiece.

I can only hope Kojima realized that he has to do something fresh. This doesn't resemble anything I've seen before from Kojima so maybe I won't have to hope anymore.

Could it be, something with the snatcher series?

I loved each MGS game, but I want Konami to move onto something else. They rely far too much on their franchises like most game companies. If they made a sequel to any of their games, I'd prefer it to be Suikoden (I'm not counting the DS one). But, why not strike out and try something new? They tried Zone of the Enders on PS2, but they could experiment with another new property on the 360 and PS3.

+1 hoping for ZOE. But if it is something like Silent Hill... ooooh boy.

This is going to be Metal Gear Solid 4 + Oxide, the Xbox 360 version of Metal Gear Solid 4 with more features. Twitter user @GameFork, who is a Microsoft employee has leaked this secret along with a few other games to be revealed at E3. Sorry I can't link you to him on Twitter because I'm under a firewall at the moment.

It must be sweet to have a marketing budget that allows for spread teaser print ads. ;)

I think it's a teaser for Kojima's upcoming mature farming game. It will kind of be like Harvest Moon, but in this game you'll have to put down your occasional rabid farm animal, and if you so choose, skin it within 24 hours to send it to the taxidermist. You will also have the ability to lay in a field for hours on end while you wait for that pesky fox that's been snooping around lately and eating your chickens. Having not played MGS4 yet, I'm going to assume this game takes place after Solid Snake retires to live a peaceful life on a farm in the middle of Iowa. The title will be "Metal Gear Agriculture: Snakes Drought"

I'm thinking it's going to be a super realistic storm chasing game. Bonus points for surviving the destruction of the F-5 tornado. Fly your plane through the eye of the hurricane and gather real time scientific data. Decide when to sound the alarm to evacuate the town. Make the wrong call and face angry citizens that chase you with pitchforks.

MGS + O, lol, if that's true than shits gonna fly and a lot of people are going to be eating crow. Microsoft's press conference is looking way too good to be true... MGS + O? that would be huge Splinter Cell: Conviction Allan Wake Mass Effect 2 Halo: ODST Third party showings... Modern Warfare 2 Assassins Creed 2 And who knows what else, there show is looking 'Epic' from here! speaking of, they will probably show off 'Road to Ruin', the new single player chapter that's coming to Gears of War 2.

I hope for Snatcher, but expect Metal Gear 5. Either way I wont be disappointed.
