Cold and flu season has left me oozing from the face and unable to breathe through my nostrils alone. I’m a mouth-breathing illness bucket. To the Blips!

News Blips:

Battlefield 3’s initial installation on PS3 could take five times longer than the Xbox 360 version. GamePro has done a little bit of science and compared the time it took to get the best version of DICE’s latest first-person shooter up and running. For the PS3, that means simply booting up the game and applying approximately 2GBs of data to the hard drive. On the Xbox 360, players will get a choice to install a 1.5GB HD texture pack or not, but it’ll look like soupy garbage without it. The end result looks about the same across both consoles, but the road was a little longer for Sony’s machine. While the Xbox 360 took around five minutes to update and apply the texture pack, the PS3 took upwards of 25 minutes. By that point, PC users will have already grown tired of the EA shooter and will be on message boards laughing at your silly little game box. I should stress that this is just one test, and your experience may -- and probably will -- vary.

Speaking of Battlfield 3’s Xbox 360 texture pack, this is what it looks like with it and without it:

Oof! I’ve seen skin on the face of a real housewife of New Jersey with better texture. Battlefield 3’s second DVD really makes a difference for Microsoft’s console. Without the HD imagery streaming from the hard drive, the game looks ancient...guess it’s time to make room on the ol’ 20 gig.

Developer Mojang has announced that Minecraft will be playable for Xbox 360 at the game’s first celebratory convention in Las Vegas. MineCon is all things Minecraft. Fans planning to attend the $99 festival already knew they were in for several treats, and now they’ll be the first people to play the official game on a current-gen console. The Xbox Live Arcade port will hit the network in Spring 2012, which is a few months after the game is scheduled to be “finished” for PC. Although I have a hard time believing that anyone who wants to try this title has been holding out for a version on their 360.

Man, installation took forever! I don't think I've ever spent so much time waiting on the installation screen. It was worth the wait though. The multiplayer maps look amazing, aside from the occasional glitch.
