Rest in peace, Macho Man Randy Savage. Sleep now, sweet prince.

News Blips:

News Blips: GameFly buys Direct2DriveIGN in the works to sell digital-PC-game distributor Direct2Drive to GameFly. Direct2Drive recently initiated a PC-game rental service which allows gamers to play a game for five hours for $5.00. If players decided to keep the game, then that rental money is subtracted from the final cost of the game. It is unclear if this is what attracted GameFly. What is certain is that distributors like GameFly -- and Netflix for films -- must continue investing in technology or else find they’ve lost the edge to some forward-looking startup. For example, could Direct2Drive be GameFly’s answer to OnLive? Or could I be asking a question to end this blip because there isn’t enough information for me to make a definitive statement? Move along.

Dragon Age 3’s existence confirmed by BioWare staffer’s Twitter. Bioware Senior Director of Creative Development Alistair McNally tweeted the following: “I’m looking for exceptional environment artists to join me at BioWare Edmonton, Canada to work on Dragon Age 3.” Take this as official confirmation that a sequel is on the way. The fact that the first bit of information about Dragon Age 3 is that the developers are looking for environment artists can be -- and probably will be -- taken to mean that BioWare recognizes gamers’ complaints about repetitive settings in Dragon Age 2.

Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version gets delayed -- the series’ inexplicable fans weep. Prototype Version was scheduled to debut alongside the 3DS’ eShop Channel. According to the game’s producer, Tatsuya Kitabayashi, “it’s always been our aim in the production of this game to create something that would provide a fun time for all, and from here on out, we will be maintaining this aim with a renewed desire to create a product of the highest quality.” Reading between the lines: It stinks and they want more time to waft out the stink before releasing it. But wait, Mega Man Legends fans, don’t hit send on that hate mail you wrote me just yet. This is probably a good thing. If Prototype Version ends up selling well, then it will increase the likelihood of a full retail Mega Man Legends release.

Rumors claim Alan Wake will return in an Xbox Live Arcade game titled Night Springs. Murmurs of the psychological thriller’s return have surfaced previously when Remedy stated that the protagonist would return soon but not in a sequel or add-on to the original game. Hey, that leaves XBLA! Night Springs is the title of the fictional television show in the Alan Wake universe. I hope it is a Twilight Zone-like take on the WarioWare games -- that would be the finest nightmare fuel. [XBLAFans]
