News Blips: The Riddler in Arkham City, Swarm for $15, Dragon Age Legends, and more

I need to change my name to something nefarious like Edward Nygma to help facilitate the whole "becoming a villain" process. I welcome suggestions. Right now, all I have is Ban K. Rober.

News Blips:

News Blips: The Riddler in Arkham CityThe Riddler is getting an expanded role in Batman: Arkham City. While The Riddler certainly affected the proceedings in 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum -- with collectibles and puzzles -- he wasn't physically present. That is changing in the sequel, where Edward Nygma will be threatening Batman and innocent people. "The Riddler experience is not part of the main story," said Rocksteady's Dax Ginn, "but... it seems to do a disservice to call them 'side missions,' because we take them really, really seriously." Now, will they take Jim Carrey away from his busy schedule of not being in movies since the '90s to do the voice?

Swarm priced at $15 on PSN and XBLA and will be available next week. The Pikmin-like game will put players in charge of the Swarmites -- a group of "blue morons" who will follow the player's every command. The game is colorful, but don't mistake it for harmless -- it's developers describe it as "death-enhanced" and "suicidal." Playstation Plus members will get a $3 discount when the game is released on March 22 in North America.

Bioware and EA release Dragon Age Legends as a Play4Free title on Facebook. EA's Play4Free studio, EA2D, worked with Bioware to develop this social game. “Dragon Age Legends brings true RPG combat and style to this massive social platform and delivers it at BioWare-blockbuster quality, raising the bar for social games,” said EA2D General Manager Mark Spenner. Of course, this game is supposed to tie-in with the recently released Dragon Age 2. Players will be able to earn five exclusive items for DA2 in Legends. Now, that leaves me with one question: How many notifications will I receive about this from Brett Bates?

Wal-Mart and Amazon drop the price of Homefront to $41.96. Look, cheapskates, I don't know why you are reading blips and not, y'know, getting a J-O-B, but I've got some good news for your malnourished wallets. Homefront has been caught in the crossfire of a pricing war, and the winner is savings. The game has only been available for a little more than 24 hours, and the huge retailers have already significantly slashed prices. Competition is dope like that. Now, what will you do with the extra $18? I think you should spend it on some really worthy microtransactions in Dragon Age Legends.

I was kinda pissed when I read the Wal-Mart/Amazon news. I purchased Homefront full price at a brick-and-mortar Wal-Mart and was none too impressed. It seems very derivative, a throwback to 90's shooters (the graphics--particularly the character models--look antiquated). Like most shops, Wal-Mart doesn't allow open media returns, so I'm stuck with it. If I'd bought it on Wal-Mart online, I'd be out $42 instead of $60. To eBay I go!

THQ must be desspred to sell 2 million copies of "Homefront" if the price has dropped a day after its release.

If anything, THQ may have been spooked by the poor reviews and subsequent stock nosedive: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2011/03/homefront-misses-with-critics-thq-stock-takes-a-beating.html
