News: GamePro magazine will switch to a quarterly release format

Starting with the Winter 2011 issue, GamePro will shift from a monthly schedule to releasing issues every November, March, June, and September. The price will go up to $9.99, but the new magazine will have 50 pages of additional content and better production quality than the current format.

GamePro has survived a tumultuous time in its industry that has brought down many publications. Hopefully this marks a new beginning instead of the beginning of the end. [Industry Gamers]

I really hope they stick around. It's just sad to me to see magazines going away.

I love the idea of a feature-heavy quarterly mag that will still be relevant years from now instead of for just a month. (Of course, given the other places I write for, this should come as no surprise. :-P) You had better believe I'm going to be pitching like crazy for this. I really hope this takes off, because this is exactly what I want out of games writing.

I was a GamePro subscriber for many years during the '90s, but EGM and GameFan (both dead) were far more enjoyable in my opinion. Still, I wish them well and hope their readers get their money's worth.

This may be the next logical step for all periodicals. Magazines and newspapers (especially the former) can't possibly keep up with the web. I'm thankful that my mag is still monthly after all these years.

I can get behind this. I've only read one edition of GamePro (the one I was published in -- it's hard and expensive to get it over here) and it was a good magazine. I'm certainly more likely to pick it up if it's quarterly; fewer expensive shipping costs will make this worthwhile to me.

I wish them all the best. :)
