As 2011 nears we continue to receive a trickle of information from Bioware and Lucasarts regarding the (hopefully) soon to be released, Star Wars the Old Republic. As mentioned in A Previous Post, slightly more information has been revealed regarding some of the news and timeline associated with The Old Republic.
Today, however, we will go into detail of two other classes to be available at game launch.
Sith Warrior
The Sith Warrior is shaping up to be the tank of the lightsaber wielding classes (for Sith at least). Utilizing Heavy Armor and extremely aggressive weaponry and tactics, the Sith Warrior is the first to jump into battle and the last to fall. As noted by Bioware:
“Despite their reliance on their strength in the Force, Warriors have no compunction about donning heavy and intimidating suits and armors. Unthreatened by the use of technology for biological augmentation, Warriors’ vestments often make use of dangerous and experimental components which imbue the wearer with immense strength and fortitude.”
From further information released via Bioware, we find that along with the rather aggressive OFFENSIVE skills that the Sith Warrior will possess, varying other utilitarian and CC skills will be available as well. Bioware states,
“A Sith Warrior’s skills with a lightsaber are unrivaled. Driving at their enemies with strong, crushing blows, the Warrior quickly beats his foes into submission or death. Though the lightsaber is the Warrior’s primary method of attack, he also uses his dark command of the Force to paralyze, terrify, and kill. Protected by heavy armor and his powers of intimidation, the Warrior wades into the thick of the fight and unleashes pure hatred and fury to eliminate all who would stand against him.”
Expect to see the usual offensive skills included. However, also look for varying paralyze and stunning moves, as well as what would seem to be “Fear” based cc skills included as well.
Currently, two specializations will be available for the Sith Warrior Class. They are:
Juggernaut
Sith who train in the stalwart arts of the Juggernaut boast unrivaled stamina in battle. Through
diligence and clarity, the Juggernaut shapes the Force to his will to become nearly invulnerable. Damage that would destroy others is shrugged off, and futility fills the Juggernaut’s foes with doubt and despair. Protecting their allies and punishing their adversaries, they charge into the thick of any fray, and take the brunt of the assault and are even able to drain the energy of their enemies to further strengthen their resolve
Marauder
Wielding two sabers and unmatched aggression, Sith trained as Marauders slice through enemy ranks, dealing death with merciless efficiency. Able to intuit precisely how to attack in order to maximize every strike, their adversaries become victims in the blink of an eye. Whether annihilating a squad of Republic troops or cutting down a single Jedi, the Marauder sees and exploits every weakness to exact the greatest toll. Never hesitating, never faltering, there is no swifter bringer of pain and damage in the galaxy.
What we can conclude from these two specialties is the ability to go for a complete tank class, or more of a dual wield, DPS centric class. It would appear that Bioware is allowing for varying ranges of DPS utilizing differing armor specs and weights. Think of the Sith Warrior as either a heavy armor tank class, or a high DPS, high armor/damage mitigation class.
The Key focus of the Sith Warrior? Damage. Whether it’s damage taken, or damage dealt, the Sith Warrior is adept at annihilating enemies and absorbing the damage for the help of a team of individuals.
“These cold-blooded conquerors waste no time with cunning manipulations and carefully-crafted plans. Sith Warriors crush their opponents and stride toward their goals with dreadful determination, leaving ruin and annihilation in their wake. Emanating awe and terror at every step, they accept nothing but absolute obedience from their followers. In turn, Sith Warriors can serve as loyal subjects to their own dark masters, often surprising enemies and allies with their rigorous honor and perfect discipline.”
From what we can see, the Sith Warrior will be a rather useful class for both PvE and PvP content, utilizing tank abilities and dastardly high powered attacks, countered with extreme defense and damage absorbtion.
Jedi Knight
By far the most ICONIC class to be available in The Old Republic, the Jedi Knight appears to be a multi-talented class with several different options to further hone your character according to your favorite playstyle and gameplay. Bioware states,
“The Jedi Knight’s graceful movements are awesome to behold. Freezing a moment in this display captures the deep commitment underlying the Jedi’s dazzling abilities. Though a Jedi Knight’s life is filled with battle and adventure, the Knight’s heart is dedicated to peace and service. An ironic observation to some, but greater wisdom suggests it is the Jedi Knights’ humble devotion which makes them so likely to become such famous heroes.”
Granted, compared to other class definitions, this one is generic at best. But moving on. Further delving into the available info we find that the Jedi Knight class will be a light to medium armor class, utilizing cloth and leather defense. As stated,
“The galaxy has been plagued by war for decades, and despite the Treaty of Coruscant, the Jedi have no delusions about the constant danger. Though traditional Jedi robes range from light cloth to thick leathers, many Jedi Knights also wear parts or entire suits of heavy armor when going into battle.”
So as we can see, the armor options will be limited to lighter raiments, such as cloth and leather. However, the Jedi Knight balances this with incredible options and power in battle.
“Whether defending allies by deflecting a barrage of blaster-fire or charging in to challenge a Sith Lord, the Knight’s role is crucial in any conflict. The Jedi Knight enjoys the benefit of ancient teachings that have been passed down through hundreds of generations. Combining these time-tested maneuvers with the natural guidance of the Force, the Knight is capable of achieving extraordinary feats.”
As seen in previous Star Wars titles, we should expect to see skills included with the Jedi Knight class that allow for everything from deflection and damage absorption, to ranged lightsaber and telekinesis abilities. Two Specialties will be available at launch and these include:
Guardian
A wall between the good people of the Republic and their enemies, the Guardian stands firm in the face of overwhelming odds and dares opponents to attack. Perfect concentration and use of the Force allows smooth movement even in heavy armor–making the Guardian a hard target to take down. Leaders on and off the battlefield, Guardians are known for inspiring allies to amazing feats, making them invaluable for conflicts of any size.
Sentinel
Control and focus are the hallmarks of the Sentinel. Through years of training the Sentinel learns the art of using two Lightsabers simultaneously to create an intricate web of damage that is almost impossible to evade. Manipulating the Force, the Sentinel can see holes in the enemy defense, potential flaws in their own technique and how best to plan for both.
As we see noted by Bioware above, the Jedi Knight will have two specialties, allowing for a more defensive spec’ed class as well as a more agressive, DPS focused specialization as well.
“Through years of disciplined training and meditation, the Jedi Knight hones body and mind into perfect harmony. Combining the foresight of the Force with unrivaled reflexes and practiced physical precision, the Knight turns combat into an art form, gracefully executing acrobatic feats in tandem with elegant lightsaber tactics.”
From everything we can gather the key word with the Jedi Knight will be variety. Expect to see a wide assortment of utilitarian skills with this class allowing the Jedi Knight to further bend and utilize the environment to make a better combat advantage.
