Video Blips: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Child of Eden, Grove Keeper, and more

The Legend of Zelda series is probably the one Nintendo franchise I can stand behind, hands down, no matter how long it drags on. It has never failed to please and will always be a prime example of the unique style of visual storytelling that video games have. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D should definitely be on your to-get list if you own a 3DS yet haven't played the original.

Video Blips:

• Gamers have been clamoring for an Ocarina of Time remake since the GameCube tech demo in 2000. While I would have personally preferred a next-gen remake with fully updated graphics, this intro alone makes purchasing a 3DS mighty tempting. I’m a hypocrite, I know.

Continue after the break for some psychedelic gameplay in Child of Eden, a bit of touch-screen turmoil in Grove Keeper, and colonial carnage in Backstab.

• Child of Eden features the same beloved rhythm-action gameplay found in Tetsuya Mizuguchi's previous game, Rez, with the addition of Kinect controls. I find something enchantingly beautiful about Mizuguchi’s visual style. Games like these help you appreciate the fact that video games can and do have a personality all their own.

• Grove Keeper puts you in control of a nose-picking, seemingly incompetent keeper of nature and balance. It’s too bad this game is only on iOS devices. I find something peculiar about using an old, eccentric-looking white guy to fling arrows at an army of Asian soldiers. There's a good racial joke in here somewhere, I know it.

• Backstab features the story of Henry Blake, a naval officer unjustly accused of treason who escapes prison to embark on a quest for revenge. Watch how Henry’s expression slowly changes from extremely determined to feverishly pissed. I can’t imagine how gratifying it must be to open the throat of a rum-filled redcoat.

I know, right? The music alone gets me all warm and fuzzy.

Sigh. That beautiful intro makes me want a 3DS.
