Year of the Retro

This year is what I want to call the year of Retro Gaming. If you have not noticed then you live in some cave with internet with better internet then I. For this post I am using IE6 cause I have to and not because I want to. Which means don't expect pictures, but a wall of text.

So many companies are like lets revive a classic and see how many suckers people will buy it. Nintendo is really big on remaking the classics like Sony is with the whole PS1 titles. While this may not be a bad thing if you own that console. (check out New Super Mario Bros for the DS)

Only some game companies like Sega take there fans input on what they want to see (hence Earthworm Jim is coming to us) being remade. While others like Capcom refuse to hear pleas for Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers.

Some gems that would be awesome remakes include Gunsmoke, Monster in my Pocket, Earthbound and the Simpsons (Arcade Version) to name a few.

While these retro games are good for easy money on the publishers. I fear for new titles that may get over looked like Youropa, Death Spank and Aftermath to name a few of those.

So I hope when a publisher realizes yes easy money is in retro we still want the same amount or more new great games as well.

If you are saying that the remade versions of games such as Bionic Commando are over-shadowing other games, like Death Spank, then I agree.

I hear what you mean. I wonder if publishers are doing what movie houses are doing - remaking good films knowing we are attached to it via nostalgia. They know we're going to pay because we want to relive the experience.
