"And the Nominees Are..." & "And the Winner Is..." achievements from Scene It? Box Office Smash! DLC -- both worth 30 gamerscore a piece.
When it comes to achievements some might call me a whore. Once I pop I can't stop. More accurately though, I am a completionist and if a title I own offers a reasonable chance at 100% I invariably take the dare.
While Scene It? Box Office Smash! offers some pretty low hanging fruit, it's DLC -- Award Winners -- brings the grind normally reserved for RPGs to the world of trivia.
The grind comes in the form of 2 achievements that require answering rapid-fire true/false questions: 40 questions about either Oscar winning actors or directors (And the Nominees Are...), 60 about Oscar Best Picture winners (And the Winner Is...). It seems easy enough at first blush but questionable game design has killed many a dream.
The ten question Pop Quiz rounds in which these specialized categories appear only occur at the end of the second of three rounds. Unlike the rest of the shockingly minimal DLC question categories -- which I had the misfortune of memorizing -- the Best Picture and Best Actor/Director related trivia is as rare as rooster teeth, materializing as infrequently as once an hour.
There is no relevant in-game statistic tracking to monitor your progress. You hope and pray you can answer immediately and correctly for it to count towards the achievement which requires instant recall of encyclopedic knowledge dating back to the beginning of moviedom. Fun with a crowd, but achievements are largely a solitary, and in this case, aggravating affair.
I have gone to ridiculous lengths for some achievements but none have been as mind-numbingly mundane as these. A person can only hear Forrest Gump say "That's my boat." so many times before all the charm of that film is tainted forever.
I never thought I would grind a trivia game but at least (12 hours later) I got my 1250.
I know..."Whore."
