Deadly Premonitions vs. Heavy Rain

I beat Heavy Rain this week. I finished it with the worst ending possible too, ..I guess. I remember thinking the game was going to be really great and something new for me. I play a lot of first person shooters you see. So while previews and videos were starting to appear, I was getting excited to finally play the game. I actually preordered it from my local Game Stop, I never preorder. Why should I have to pre order a triple A title. Pre orders are for less mainstream games that you might have trouble finding right?

When I finally did get home with the game I really did not feel like playing it right away, but I did. See, I'm a dad of a 2 year old and she likes to have either my attention or Dora the Explorer on the TV. By chance when I got home with Heavy Rain it just happened to be nap time, which left me two solid hours of gaming, I had to try it out. After the install and update I was left with about an hour in a half of play time, which was plenty. I won't talk about the game play but lets just say I was done with the game in a week. The story was ok, well I would say the whole experience was just ok, not great like I though it would be.

Now a little over a week after the let down I see hope for a great gaming experience, it is called Deadly Premonitions. It looks to be some kind of obscure value title. At twenty dollars I though I can't go wrong. But cheap games don't mean that much to me. I'll pay for a great game because it entertains me for so long. It brings me joy, it allows me alone time. So I would have paid full price you see, no problem. But what gets me really excited about DP is a review I read on it from destructoid. They gave it a ten which might be more of a joke than anything, but they also mentioned that it had a Twin Peaks feel to it. I love Twin Peaks. So Im at work right now, waiting to go home and try it out. Hoping it will be better than Heavy Rain.

I think it will be for two reason, the controls and the story. In Heavy Rain the controls felt off. Walking was a chore I though. Also, It really felt like you were just a viewer in the whole experience, not a participent. Now the story, 80's crime B movie at best, nothing more. Deadly Premonitions looks to be way more exciting, like silent hill, Twin Peaks and resident Evil all rolled into one. Now if the controls work well it will be unstoppable in my eye's.

Have you watched the Backyardigans? I really like that show over Dora. You should have included some pictures of Deadly Premonitions, it sounds good. Alan Wake is another game coming out soon with the same type of feel.

That is so funny! I just beat and reviewed Heavy Rain this week, and opened my copy of Deadly Premonition today.

I was a good bit more positive on HR than you, but was also very open eyed on its flaws.

I think if you are looking for something along the lines of the old Resident Evil or Silent Hill games, then you will find a lot to love in Deadly P. I am only about two hours in, but am already having some good fun with it. Keep me updated on your impressions as you play DP. It almost feels like a remake of a classic survival horror game. That brings all the good and bad imagery that can come with that description. If you are the type of player that can still go back and play to old REs then you will probably like it.

I will be excited to see if we are on the same page with it or not. At $20 I will already say that any interested gamer would be crazy to not pick it up. It is only a bit more expensive than renting a game.
