I've always dreamed of being on some special task force that was charged with enforcing video-game laws. Euro customs, eff yeah!
News Blips:
Reports claim that European customs are confiscating shipments of the PS3. The Guardian newspaper in the U.K. is reporting that, due to an injunction filed by LG, officials are delaying the importation of PS3s for at least 10 days. Seven patents are at the core of the legal battle between the two consumer electronics companies. I wonder if the agents have to put all of the PS3s in a warehouse with the Ark of the Covenant. Sony currently has top men trying to have the injunction lifted -- top men. In the meantime, the Euro zone has no plans to confiscate any of the consoles that have made it to retailers, but that supply will deplete within two weeks unless shipments continue.
Valve adds TV-optimization to Steam with Big Picture mode. Steam's interface will receive a boost with the new mode, which will make it look much cleaner on bigger televisions. In addition, users will be able to navigate the browsing experience with a game pad. I welcome the day when Gabe Newell is responsible for all entertainment. Thank you, Gabe, for this precious gift...but please, do not harm me for saying the Forbidden Phrase: "Hey, whatever happened to Half-Life 3?"
The R4 piracy card works on the Nintendo 3DS, but only for original DS games. A video recently appeared online, showing the R4 card working in the new Nintendo handheld. This may seem like the hardware team at Nintendo left a gaping security hole in their new baby, but it was probably too expensive to remove from the security on the backwards compatibility. I'm sure that pirate message boards are welcoming this news as a great feature for the 3D device.
Short trailer stars Ninja Gaiden's Ryu Hayabusa -- may be teasing new Ninja Gaiden. The trailer puts viewers behind the eyes of a victim being skewered on the end of Hayabusa's katana. The bloody trailer ends with a splash screen saying: "Unmasked - E3 2011." The obvious choice is that this is the first post-Tomonobu Itagaki Ninja Gaiden, but we'll wait until June for E3 before making any commitments. I just hope that the team has learned from past criticisms of sexism and applies their boob-jiggling physics equally to women's breasts and men's junk.
