Whoa, E3 is only a few days away! Time to get Los Angeles-ready. Sunglasses? Check mark! Fake tan? Check mark! Two-year-old screenplay about space sharks just in case I see Ashton Kutcher? Check mark and a squeeee for Ashton!
News Blips:
Some Sony fans have done some digging around the company’s E3 2011 website and have discovered some references to the “PS Vita.” We've been hearing reports that Vita is the code name that developers have been using for the NGP, Sony’s PlayStation Portable successor. The fact that the name is popping up in Sony’s official E3 website suggests that we should probably get used to that handle. Of course, we’ll know in a matter of days as E3 gets under way. After doing a little research, I've discovered that Vita is Italian for "volunteer income tax assistance" -- wait, no, that can’t be right -- give me a second. Life! It is Italian for “life.” Stupid Google.
THQ will publish a follow up to Darksiders in 2012. The series, which was critically acclaimed despite complaints that the gameplay was mostly derivative, is one of THQ’s more prominent intellectual properties. The sequel will take place in the same timeframe as the original but will push Death into the role of protagonist instead of War. While both characters are Horseman of the Apocalypse, War’s objective was to clear his name and commit an act of vengeance. Death, on the other hand, will be attempting to upset a plot that “may threaten all of Creation” -- y’know, typical Death stuff.
Catwoman will be a playable character in Batman: Arkham City. Look, everyone loves Batman, but he just doesn’t have the cleavage I require in my video-game characters. Enter Catwoman. Gotham’s most dateable super villain is attempting a heist of all the loot Batman recovered from the city’s other criminals. Players will have to switch over to the feline fatale throughout the adventure, as her story is completely interwoven with the Dark Knight’s tale. This isn’t just a palette swap. Catwoman uses her whip to navigate environments and is much more agile at climbing and evading enemies. I should probably stop describing her -- Batman is totally getting turned on by this.
Plants vs. Zombies is finally available for Android devices exclusively through the Amazon Appstore. If you own an Android-powered device and haven’t found a reason to get in on the Amazon Appstore yet, well, now is probably the time. The service has been offering a free app every day since it opened for business, but yesterday’s was easily the most shocking: Popcap’s Plants vs. Zombies. The game is no longer free, but for a limited time it is marked down to $1.49 from its normal $2.99. While you are there, you can pick up Pac-Man, which is today’s free app. Go here to order the game and to download the Amazon Appstore.
