I wonder sometimes what E3 is really all about. I suppose it's about generating excitement so we all spend money. Yep, E3 is about making bucks. But I have to admit I have a lot of fun reading about the new games, so to me it's about having fun. I imagine for the game developers it's about showing off all the cool games they helped create.
But to me it's definitely about having fun. So as I perused through all the new games coming out, I started to wonder just how much fun these games are going to be. I'd say most of the time, believe it or not, if I think I'm going to have fun playing a game, I don't, and if I don't think I'm going to have fun, I do. So here's what I've decided: I will not play anything from this year's E3 that I think I will have fun playing. No Sonic, Zelda, Metroid, Halo, Final Fantasy. If my initial impression is, "I don't want to play that," that's what I'm going to play.
First up: Pac-man Party
This game is just what nobody needs: another Mario Party clone. There's already something like 8 Mario Party's to begin with, but then everybody has to go and copy it. I'm sure there's not going to be many surprises, except maybe the new characters they've created for the Pac-man world, ripped straight off of the Sonic characters that nobody likes to play as. I'll give it a try.
Next up: Dance Central for Kinect.
I don't like to dance. In addition, I don't like Grease, Saturday Night Fever, the Bee Gees, or Disco. I like sports. Dancing just makes me feel stupid. I can't see how I could possibly have fun with this game.
And 3: Bodycount.

Listen to this quote from the game's director: "It's all about having fun with your gun." And this one, where he says it's all about "consequence-free shooting, it's a glossy techno thriller." Sounds like a lot of thought went into this one. Sign me up.
Anyone else want to join me in my boycott of anything fun coming out of E3?
