Retro Ads: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Nothing has ever made me cry in frustration more than Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the Nintendo Entertainment System. This is the only game that's ever made me throw a controller with the intent to break something. Shattering noises make the pain go away [via the Retroist]:

Check out the gameplay after the jump.

I had this game and played it regularly when I was young. I could never get past the first area though and make it the Dam...I didn't even know the Dam was the next area. That music will always be stuck in my head, just like the pause menu music from Battletoads.

The farthest I ever got (without cheating) was to the Technodrome, but I never beat it.

Like most arcade denizens, I was obsessed with the TMNT arcade game, and assume in my naive child mind, that this was a port. What we got had little or nothing to do with any incarnations of the Ninja Turtles. I'm still dissapointed.

The 7:00 mark of this video is where many controllers met their untimely demise. At least when Mega Man pulled stuff like that, the controls were tight.

That small jump in the dam level: Bull shit!

@William: That part still haunts my dreams.

TMNT 2 was tight, though.

Agh...bad memories returning...why are the Ninja Turtles being chased by Trucks? What the hell are those UFOs and leatherface look-alikes doing in a Ninja Turtles game??
Incidentally, that guy beat Rocksteady in about the hardest way imaginable. Easiest way was to stand at the top right and use Don's bow to get him as he jumped up.

It makes me very happy to know I am not the only one who suffered because of this game. Maybe we can start a support group?

I used to try different controllers trying to discover the best way to manuever those underwater electric plants, haha!
