A Link to the Past's Secret Room

GameTrailers has started a new series called Pop-Fiction. It's sort of like a MythBusters for gaming. The first episode deals with the Chris Houlihan Room, a supposedly secret area in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Chris Houlihan won a contest in Nintendo Power to have his name put in the game. This ended up being a small room -- named after him -- with random and bizarre prerequisites to enter.

I was always familiar with this story, but I never knew how to get to the room...or if it actually existed. Well, if you're like me, now is your chance to finally see Houlihan's virtual pad.

I feel like I should turn in my nerd card; I'd never even heard of this room. Looks like I've got something to try this afternoon.

Gametrailers consistently posts really interesting videos.  Thanks for pointing this one out.

Though I wish they had posted an attempt at the "dash as fast as you can to get to the room" method as well, because I'm sure I've gotten into the room that way.  I was a bit disappointed to hear that they thought it didn't work.

I don't remember the Warmech contest. Was it in the same one that was offering up hand-crafted Crystal Orbs, full suits of armor, and the chance to run around in Final Fantasy costumes with your friends while a crew videotaped the whole thing?  Nintendo Power had some insane contests back in the day.  Forget download codes or T-shirts.  How about a golf cart?

Yeah, I'm a fan of GameTrailers. Their Retrospective videos especially are really well done.
