Like shooting out your eye with a B.B. gun or exhuming the remains of your aunt's fruitcake, video gaming during the holidays can create some wonderful memories.
Being the season of giving, I figured it would be fun to usher in the jolly mood by having our amazing Bitmob community share their favorite stories of gaming during the holiday season.
One of my initiatory forays into the video gaming world occurred during the holidays. At first, I was extremely wary to even touch a controller, as I was quirky enough to consider video games as a serious and frustrating endeavor to partake, rather than a relaxing hobby (oh, how the tables have turned).
Of course, that didn't stop one of my friends from passing on a well-worn SNES console and nearly 20 or so games to me during Christmas. The friend, figuring that the only way for me to get my foot in the door of gaming was to literally boot me through it -- and he was right -- sat with me the rest of the night as we slogged through the first few levels of Super Mario World.
That giant green lizard thing was on crack, though.
Thus, I overcame my trepidation of playing video games to become the pasty-skinned nerd I am today. Like the sappy endings to sappy holiday movies that plague the TV this time of year, I had found a medium for bringing my friends and family close together with some true holiday spirit -- little did I know that it would be the tinkling 16-bit sounds of a gaming console.
