Beat Modern Warfare 2 this past Friday. It definitely isn’t as short as some say (4 hours) but maybe I just took awhile since I played through on Hardened right off the bat. MW2’s campaign is sort of like a big-budget action flick – there’s not much character development and the story is suspect, but the stunts and special fx are awesome. There’s some great scenarios. Here’s the top 5 things (good & bad) that really stuck with me after a few days away from the campaign:
—
5. Predictable Betrayal – and even more FPS character deaths were memorable – but overdone
4. Terrorism was at its best in a scene where you shoot up an airport and fight the cops – the visuals and slow methodical controls in that scenario were cool.
3. Breaching – this new mechanic added a cool bullet-time effect and was especially awesome in the worn-down communal shower room scene that was pretty directly ripped from the Rock. Still playing stuff like that is cool.
2. Popping smoke and using thermal scopes to pop baddies. The first time you use this in the campaign, you just feel like a badass.
1. The Russians invading the USA – parachuting in – and the whole idea of the US’s franchise restaurants and suburbia being a battlefield was certainly a highlight.

The good news is that I have the stellar multiplayer to enjoy and focus on now. I’m not really compelled to play through the campaign again, but maybe I’ll come back to it.
