Bitmob Community Jukebox No. 48 -- The End Is Nigh Edition

Welcome the 48th edition of the Jukebox! This week's theme may seem a little weird, so I'll get right down to it by telling everyone that I've decided to conclude the Jukebox with its 50th installment. To be honest, it hasn't been easy finding five to ten interesting songs every week, and I've grown a bit weary of it. This doesn't necassarily mean the end forever; if I can think of a way to revamp the idea -- or just generally shake things up -- it may return in some form in the future. In the meantime, it's been a good run, and I've only missed two weeks, which technically means 50th Jukebox will also the one year anniversary of the column -- the perfect time for an exit.

Anyway, what about this week's selections? Bitmobber Guillermo Guitterrez chose a great track from TimeSplitters: Future Perfect. Also, make sure to check out Eric Sapp's eerie tune from Silent Hill: Origins. And don't miss my choice from a little-known NES puzzler called Kickle Cubicle. It's the first song I've ever uploaded to YouTube myself. I've never been able to find it, and I wanted to include it before the Jukebox's conclusion.

Only two more editions to go! If you ever wanted to submit a song, this antepenultimate installment is the time to do it. Hit the jump to find out how.

I've got three ways to dig that groove, baby:

Method 1: Pick and Choose

Community Selections

1) Granado Espada -- Ni Miedo

2) Mappy Land -- Level 2*

3) 3D Dot Game Hereos -- Water Temple

4) The Neverhood -- Klayman's Theme

5) Kickle Cubicle -- Stage 1*

6) Illusion of Gaia -- Signs of the Past

7) Chrono Chross -- Magical Deamers: Wind, Stars, and Waves

8) Super Mario World -- Special Zone

9) VVVVVV -- Popular Potpourri

10) Mega Man 2 -- Quick Man

11) Ys: Book 1 and 2 -- Ruins of Moondoria

12) Silent Hill: Origins -- Battle Drums suggested by Eric Sapp

13) Devil May Cry -- Flock Off! suggested by Jimmy Flores

14) Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 -- Hell March 3 suggested by Gregory Morton

15) TimeSplitters: Future Perfect -- Spaceport suggested by Guillermo Guitterrez (++good)

Method 2: Let It Ride

(Click here to listen in a separate window.)

Method 3: I'm Tired of This Playlist

Tired of this week's Jukebox selections? Want to scope which classic songs other Bitmobbers have already nabbed? Then check out The Bitmob Community Jukebox Archive. Contributor Evan Killham created -- and maintains -- a comprehensive list of every song that the community and I have ever chosen.

With hundreds of tunes available in the Archive, you don't need to fret if this week's jams aren't to your taste. Just click the link, and the records keep on spinnin'!

For all you newcomers, here's how it works -- I've got just two simple rules for submitting songs:

1) Songs from music games with original music and licensed songs from game soundtracks like Grand Theft Auto are OK. Submissions from games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band will not be accepted. Otherwise, this post may turn into a competition between people's favorite bands.

2) Only one submission response per person, per week.

When you've thought of a selection, put it in the comments below. And don't worry about the theme you see in the title of the post -- I name each edition retroactively.

I will always try to find the official name of any song I use -- whether it comes from myself or the community. If I am unable to verify a song's title, I will mark it with an asterisk (*).

Finally, if you'd like to win the Double-Plus Good Song of the Week (the weekly best of award), try to think of an obscure song or a song you think the community and I have overlooked in previous posts.

P.S. Sorry Bryan! Someone already picked the end theme to Beyond Good and Evil. The title is "Home Sweet Home."

You forgot my Beyond Good and Evil selection for this week, James. :(

This one of my favorite blogs!  I suppose 50's a good one to end on... I thought you always did a good job with it.

Great choice on Ys Book I & II. That series definitely needs more love over here.

This feature doesn't need to die like this! Heck, if you can't get enough tracks yourself, let us put up more tracks at once. I love this article series too much to let it die!

Anyway, here's my single track to show off:

Touhou 7: Perfect Cherry Blossom - Paradise ~ Deep Mountain(Stage 1)

Touhou's music has always been exceedingly well-composed(no wonder there's so many covers and remixes of them), but this song is one of the few that actually manage to choke me up. It's that good.

@Bryan Check the post script! Sorry about that.

@Everyone Thanks for the love, but. the truth of the matter is also that this is not the most ummm...high performing...post on the site. It takes a lot of effort to get it together, and I don't know if it's totally worth it.

I really like sharing and passing around video game music, and I'm going to try to think of ways to generate more interest. As it stands, most of my effort goes toward creating the Jukebox and not improving it. I think a little time off can only help. And anyway, I can't believe I made it to 50!

Gundam Battle Assault 2 - Track 5. I'm not sure what the actual stage is called. I think it's suppose to be The Battle of A Baoa Qu, the final battle of the original Mobile Suit Gundam.

I'm going to miss the jukebox ever so. I have a song planned for the final installment that may seem a little strange at first, but it will all make sense! However for now, I think another Half-Life 2 track is in order:

@Eric I'm actually going to be doing something a little different than basic song selection for the last Jukebox. If you've got something waiting in the wings, have at it now!

Oh, my bad, James, missed the post script.  I guess I also didn't bother to check the archive beforehand either.  My fault entirely.  Alright, here's an original selection:

@Bryan No fault shall ever be laid! I just like good, new songs.

Oh noes! This is too bad. I'll try and pick some good ones.

Ben E. King - Street Tough, from Indigo Prophecy

That was the only version I could find, for some reason. It has a weird slideshow at the end.

@James Okay! Use this track instead: Because the jukebox will be no longer, let us celebrate it with a Street Fighter 4 ending in EGM fashion.

Street Fighter 4 - Overpass Theme

"I will be back, don't worry. I will be back for you!"

Well, since our buddy Eric posted another song, I might as well do the same.

Donpachi(Saturn version) - Stage 1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ykmjwx3PU58

Before Cave became underground superstars with the sequel DoDonPachi, they made this game which is nowhere near as Bullet-Hellish as its later entries, but is still pretty fun. And the Saturn port has some enhanced music to boot!

Oh, and since nobody's stopping me, here's a song that's unfairly NOT in the Jukebox Archive yet.

@Gregory That's such a great song. I'm surprised it hasn't been posted yet!
