EDITOR'S NOTEfrom James DeRosa

Check out Chris' new writing challenge. It looks like a lot of fun!

Welcome to the penultimate edition of the Bitmob Community Jukebox! This week I have a special request from everyone who has contributed in the past (and those who haven't). For the last installment of the Jukebox, I would like to gather everyone's favorite game soundtracks into one epic, final playlist. Please, send me an e-mail telling me which title you think features the best game music of all time, a few sentences about why, and a one or two selections from its track list that you feel are representative of that particular soundtrack.

Send all submissions to james.derosa@bitmob.com, subject: Community Jukebox.

Next week, I will collect everyone's picks into one massive playlist. Also, don't worry about any of the normal submission guidelines for this one. Just pick your favorite soundtrack and tell us why it's great.

Also, make sure to check out this week's final, normal group of community-submitted tunes. It features awesome selections from Metroid Prime, Halo 2, Chrono Trigger, and more!

I've got three ways to finsh this out:

Method 1: Pick and Choose

Community Selections

1) Chrono Trigger -- Schala's Theme

2) Journey to Silius -- Stage 4*

3) Kingdom Hearts -- End of the World

4) Aquaria -- The Light

5) Final Fantasy 4 -- Battle 2

6) Half-Life 2: Episode 1 -- Self-Destruction suggested by Eric Sapp

7) Metroid Prime -- Phendrana Drifts suggested by Gregory Morton

8) Halo 2 -- Peril suggested by Bryan Glynn

9) Street Fighter 4 -- Overpass Stage (Tokyo) suggested by Eric Sapp

10) Indigo Prophecy -- Street Tough (by Ben E. King) suggested by Michael Pangelina

11) DonPachi -- Stage 1* suggested by Gregory Morton

12) Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean -- Violet Storm suggested by Jimmy Flores

13) Gundamn Battle Assault 2 -- Track 5* suggested by  Chris Hoadley

14) Touhou 7: Perfect Cherry Blossom -- Deep Mountain suggested by Gregory Morton

15) Chime -- Brazil (by Philip Glass Ensemble) suggested by Andrew Hiscock

Method 2: Let It Ride

(Click here to listen in a separate window.)

Method 3: I'm Tired of This Playlist

Tired of this week's Jukebox selections? Want to scope which classic songs other Bitmobbers have already nabbed? Then check out The Bitmob Community Jukebox Archive. Contributor Evan Killham created -- and maintains -- a comprehensive list of every song that the community and I have ever chosen.

With hundreds of tunes available in the Archive, you don't need to fret if this week's jams aren't to your taste. Just click the link, and the records keep on spinnin'!

For all you newcomers, here's how it works -- I've got just two simple rules for submitting songs:

1) Songs from music games with original music and licensed songs from game soundtracks like Grand Theft Auto are OK. Submissions from games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band will not be accepted. Otherwise, this post may turn into a competition between people's favorite bands.

2) Only one submission response per person, per week.

When you've thought of a selection, put it in the comments below. And don't worry about the theme you see in the title of the post -- I name each edition retroactively.

I will always try to find the official name of any song I use -- whether it comes from myself or the community. If I am unable to verify a song's title, I will mark it with an asterisk (*).

Finally, if you'd like to win the Double-Plus Good Song of the Week (the weekly best of award), try to think of an obscure song or a song you think the community and I have overlooked in previous posts.

P.S. Thanks to everyone who listened to the Jukebox over the last year and a big bear hug to everyone who submitted a song.

My favorite soundtrack has to be, out of all the Touhou soundtracks, the sixth entry Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. It's tight composition showed me that music in games doesn't have to sound epic or have realistic synth or instruments to sound good. To further back up my claim, Touhou's soundtracks get a massive amount of remixes and covers for such an indie game series. Look up IOSYS, Cool&Create, or just Touhou remix; You'll be rather surprised.

Now that I've raved about my favorite soundtrack, how about I supply the goods.
