Bitmob Featured Community Writer: Jeffrey Michael Grubb

The Bitmob Featured Community Writer is a new series where we focus on you, the Bitmob community member. We'll dust off your old articles and give you your just reward: more eyeballs on your writing. We're featuring some of your favorites, some you may have overlooked, and maybe even you!

This week's featured community writer is no stranger to most of us. I first came across Jeff Grubb years before Dan Hsu and Demian Linn conceived of Bitmob. He was an active 1UP community member, and I found his blogs to be informative and hilarious. He's brought that same vigor to Bitmob, and that's why fellow community member Michael Rousseau nominated him for this week's spotlight.

The quality and care Jeff puts into his articles shows: Bitmob's editors consistently promote his stories to the front page. His talents extend to the spoken word, too, and you can hear him regularly on the excellent community-driven podcast Pixel Revolt. He's also fairly conspicuous at our Bitmob meet-ups, delighting the crowd with dancing and other shenanigans. On top of all that, he somehow manages to have a life outside of Bitmob, managing a bar and working as the news editor for Kombo.com.

And with that, we are happy to present the work of Bitmob's own Anthony Gallegos lookalike, the man who puts "Hi!" in Ohio, and everybody's favorite bon vivant: Jeffrey Michael Grubb.

Meet the Mob -- Want to know more about the main, the legend, and the hair? Check out his Meet the Mob post.

Pixel Revolt -- Every two weeks, Jeff joins Derek Lavigne and editor Brett Bates to discuss topics found on Bitmob.

Front-page posts

Let's Talk About Games Journalism.... -- You have to be good to write an article about the games press and inspire someone like Dan Hsu to congratulate you and write his own article.

I Know How Well Mass Effect 2 (and Several Other Games) Will Sell -- Jeff provides some very specific sales predictions for early 2010 releases. I checked the numbers, and he came pretty close!

Top 5 Ways to Kill the Fun of Gaming -- Do you have too much fun playing video games? Jeff wants to help you.

Are Developers Obligated to Provide Equal Choice to Females and Homosexuals? -- Judged by hairiness alone, Jeff may be Bitmob's manliest community member. That doesn't stop him from examining whether developers are being unfair to women and other minorities.

From the Mobfeed

Best Game of 2009 with Brendan Fraser: Inkheart (DS) -- When asked his favorite articles he wrote for Bitmob, he supplied this small article featuring a nude Brendan Fraser. Draw your own conclusions.

Rocketbirds: Revolution! Review (with a GDC/IGF preamble -- Jeff takes a look at a smaller game you may have missed.

Celebrities and Gaming: Two Very Bad Examples -- What happens when celebrities and video games collide? They give Jeff the opportunity to make some hilarious observations.

Good choice yet again. Jeff is the man! I just started reading and commenting on Kombo, and those guys are doing great work!

I loved that list of games that exemplify the tax system Jeff did recently. Funny and scathing.

His hair is truth.

Jeff's a great guy, and I'm glad he's getting recognition for all his hard work!

I thought that first shot of Jeff was a picture from the new Prince of Persia movie when I caught it out of the corner of my eye.

He does look like Gallegos! Love the Pixel Revolt podcast, by the way.

Pretty low blow to compare him to the likes of Anthony Gallegosisis! (Yeah, I said it!)

I didn't know you managed a bar.  That makes you the coolest person on Bitmob.   I don't know what you win, but you win.

Also, in my iTunes directory there are 25 more episodes of Pixel Revolt than Rebel FM, because I deleted them all.  Jeff: 1 -- Anthony: 0

I agree with Patrick! Anthony's cool, but this is fucking Jeff Grubb!!!!! I think you should change that line to Anthony being a Jeff Grubb-lookalike!

Great choice, who is Michael going to nominate next? ;)
