(Mission eight continued)
Lilly never gets the chance, though, and she falls to a rain of plasma fire. Jay’s fate is similar -- looks like the park fence wasn’t the best cover to sit behind. Another Floater fires on James, but the building’s walls save him. And then we get the word that Kevin has fallen conscious. In a flash, we’re down to half strength!
On our next turn, Dan moves south through the buildings and spots a Floater through several windows. Rob K. had just walked directly in front of the creature without spotting it! Good thing Dan has eyes of an eagle. Rob turns quickly and dispatches our foe.
He then blasts through the wooden fence, dodges two plasma shots, and guns down yet another alien.
Dan moves up to Rob’s position and also dodges plasma fire. He turns and eliminates the threat without breaking a sweat.
Rob then walks around the wooden fence and finds the Reaper who evaded us earlier. With ease, he guns down the beast.
Remember that proximity grenade Jason threw? Well, Thomas sure doesn’t.
He takes some damage, but walks away without any wounds. Whew!
And for a big finish, I kill the last alien with the explosion from a large rocket.
Post-mission
Not the best performance -- the loss of four competent soldiers, especially heavy-weapons sharpshooter Jay, is a blow to the team. We also end this mission with three soldiers still in medical -- Thomas, Kevin, and Lester Valdez. Michael Pangelina and Aaron Wegner, on the other hand, are fit for duty once again.
Overall, though, still a job well done.
And enough so that we see an increase in funding at the end of the month.
