Rejecting Tim Schafer

Tim Schafer is the founder of Double Fine Productions. He's also the director of an upcoming game that you might have heard of: Brütal Legend. For many of us, however, he'll always be remembered as one of the creative forces behind some of the best games of all time, including the original Monkey Island 1 and 2, Maniac Mansion, and Full Throttle.

To celebrate his 20 years in the gaming industry, Schafer's making public some personal correspondence he had with companies when he was first trying to break into the game industry. Below is the highly imaginitive letter he used to get the attention of LucasArts (then called Lucasfilm) after a slightly botched phone interview [via Tim Schafer's blog Double Fine Action News]:

This unique look at how someone who's now a major player in the industry once struggled to find a job shows how much simpler the world was in the 1980s. See the full image of his "application," his rejection letters (you didn't think that he got the first job he applied for, did you?), and final vindication after the jump.

This is great. I probably would have missed this if it weren't posted here. Thanks!

This makes me wish I had saved every one of my rejection letters from my writing career. It's good motivation.

Wow, I didn't even know that companies sent out rejection letters. They never seem to do that these days.

@Lance- Haha, I actually prefer getting rejected to nothing at all. Then at least you know what went down.
