Before store owners could dazzle children out of their quarters with glitzy arcade cabinets, vendors had to convince them to buy the machines in the first place. The Arcade Flyer Archive has an impressive collection of ads dating back to the late '70s aimed at businesses.

Over the next few months, I hope to give you an insight on how companies tried to get people to buy their less-than-affordable machines. Today we're looking at a set of early Atari flyers.

I don't know why I find this funny, but, in the first picture, I really like how the mustachioed man's head blocks out the "A" of Asteroids and it looks like he's playing "Steroids."

The Dig-Dug ad is at least four kinds of amazing. Most notably, I love the word "Visioneering" in the header. I also think the effort of making costumes of the characters and having a photo shoot to get a still image in a print ad (as opposed to making a new illustration or using existing imagery) shows a dedication to the craft that you just don't see anymore.
