I noticed this evening that my Wii was feeling a little frisky. It's intense blue light was pulsing at me.
For quite awhile.
Wondeirng if my Wii had heard me talk about it on a podcast earlier that day (saying that it was gathering dust, and basically on the low rung of the totem pole), I cautiously backed away from the machine and went on to be concerned with dinner plans.
Later on that night I was skimming game news and saw that the Wii had released a firmware update version 4.3. It turns out that the main reason for the update is to help stop the Homebrew community and other unauthorized applications from running on the Wii.
Wait a minute. This sounds an awful lot like Apple trying to control the experience users have on the iPhone. But to be fair, Nintendo has always run a tight ship when it's come to their consoles.
Either way the other updates seem to be secondary and not at all cool or interesting. I really was hoping that ominous blue light was going to be something to lure me back into the world of the Wii.
Turns out it was just a blinking blue light saying "hey, i'm doing something over here but don't worry about it. nothin to see here. just updating some stuff, ya know. making things 'better'. go fix dinner. i'll be ok. just making everything safer, faster and more secure."
Side Note:
Oh and Nintendo ... fix your flash issues. If you are going to have a browser that goes to YouTube make it so that it actually plays the videos.
