The events leading up to my first article on bitmob weren't exactly positive. Over the past few weeks, I've tried to introduce my friends on my campus' gaming club some different games: Modern Warfare 2, Street Fighter, Blazblue, Castle Crashers, and I even gave the president time to play Portal, to which we all watched as she struggled with the concept of 3D spatial puzzles.
So it's not a bad thing that the club's favorite game is Smash Brothers Brawl. Did I really need to put my thoughts down in words? How Brawl was diluting the fight game genre? Well, yes, because any practice is good practice.

So I just wanted to play something different. But why was I stewing so much on this topic?
For one thing, I've built a reputation for being real good at the game. To the point where people would gang up on me in free-for-all. God forbid we play one-on-one because we all know that's not the point to Brawl. But to play the game the way it's supposed to be played but with alliances being made behind my back was not fun.
Artist's dramatization. Note, I am the one covered in hair.
So that's when I was spurred to write this article. At first I gave it to a friend who ran a sort of website. Really, I have no idea what to call it. A pop culture site? Sports site? Blog? Regardless, he offered to put up my story if I gave it to him. So in addition to that, I posted it on my own blog because I'm 21st century like that.
Then I came to bitmob. I didn't really have many ideas at that point, so I decided to copy and paste the story. Admittedly after some time reading it over and over again, I may have written it in a knee jerk reaction.
This, basically.
Well, to this day, this piece has gotten the most comments of any article I've tried publishing. When you think about it, the fighting community is very vocal about their opinions when it comes to their genre, myself included. I lurk on SRK and Dustloop afterall.
Honestly, I can't tell if I've grown as a writer, but I do know there's some kind of improvement. Since posting that article, I've continued going to school and enrolled in a class that I thought was cool and applied to my interest as a journalist: feature writing.
I think that idea at least got me on the idea of thinking outside the box for interesting ideas to write about, from ranting on Brawl, to sports writing a tournament, drawing comparisons, and why you don't have to be silent to be a silent hero.
Hey, I promise I'll think of some better stuff.
