Video Blips: Rocksmith, SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs, Darkspore, and more

I spent a good 15 minutes trying to think of a decent joke that referenced today's date, but nothing came to me. So instead, I will leave you with a trailer for Rocksmith, along with three other videos that have absolutely nothing to do with illegal substances -- unless you count whatever Maxis was smoking when they designed the art for Darkspore.

Video Blips:

• Most people would scoff at the thought of another music game, but Rocksmith is pushing the genre even further with real instruments. I don’t know how well the casual market will react to this, but the ability to plug in any real guitar sounds pretty damn awesome. Perhaps this will give me an excuse to dust off my old Fender.

After the break, feast your eyes on the recently launched SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs, a new hero character in Darkspore, and a trailer for a cutthroat mage in Dungeon Siege 3.

• So far, SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs has had a fairly mixed reception. For years, the franchise has been fighting to keep up with other powerhouse shooters. Let’s hope they recapture whatever prestige they held when the series was fresh and new.

• Darkspore will feature a variety of hero characters, each with their own unique powers and abilities. I’m not sure the cute voice behind this video does justice to the bloody, action-packed gameplay. Oh well -- at least it’s not Robin Williams making cocaine jokes.

• From the looks of things, Dungeon Siege 3 has some pretty badass characters. Reinhart doesn’t seem like an average mage, probably because he actually beats the shit out of things. Finally, a mage class that looks fun and interesting rather than fruity and fashion-conscious.
