Bitmob Intern Needed

We recently brought on an intern here at Bitmob. But we've been so busy, it's either we dump all this extra work on poor, unpaid Alejandro to spare our own sanity at the expense of his, or we bring on another poor, unpaid sucker to help out.

So yeah, we're looking for editorial intern #2. This person should have a good, dependable work ethic; a good grasp of English/punctuation/grammar; and some free time (but not necessarily full time) every day to dedicate toward Bitmob.

We already mentioned the unpaid part, right? Sorry about that, but being an intern with us isn't without its advantages. You'll be able to list us on your resume, you'll get more direct feedback on your work and writing, and you'll have real-world, start-up experience with an online gaming publication. (You may have heard of a few ex-EGM interns who have gone on to real jobs in the industry, like Xbox's Kathleen Sanders, GameTrailers' Brooks Huber, and Area 5's Jay Frechette.)

If you're interested, send us an email at letters [at] bitmob [dot] com with the subject head: Bitmob Intern. Tell us why you want or deserve to be our intern, and feel free to include a few links to writing samples as well. Let us know of your daily and weekly availability, too. (It doesn't matter where you live, by the way -- as long as we can communicate during the day, West Coast time.)

And if you never got a good handle on writing articles because you were too busy mastering PHP programming, we do need some development help as well....

Does proximity matter?

Then me and the new intern can duke it out for the editorial staff's love and admiration!

Good point... proximity doesn't matter at all, as long as you can work during our West Coast schedule. I updated the story.

Too bad english isn't my first language and that I'm not in a US timezone, and that I have both work and school! Best of luck to you guys though.

Man, if I had any confidence in my ability to take responsibilities seriously, I'd be all over this.

Any idea how many hours daily/weekly we'd be needed? I'd love to apply, but running my own site (which is also unpaid, thankless work ;) ) takes up a good chunk of my free time. I wouldn't want to take on more than I can handle by assuming you'd need me for far fewer hours than you actually would.

Also, since I'd be working remotely, what sort of tasks would be expected? It's not like I can run and get you guys coffee and sandwiches from Michigan or anything - mostly proofreading stuff, I would assume?

What types of writing samples do you want, like only writing centered around video game writing? Or do you want to see something non-video game related as well (to see our range of writing skills)?

@Rob: Good point. Perhaps you can just email me a picture of a tasty sandwich every day at 12:30. :)

The intern would be helping us post stories, maybe some other busy tasks during the day. We don't have an exact list yet. Intern stuff. :)

Could be two hours a day, could be 6+ hours a day, depends, but we'll be flexible (but this person will have to be dependable). But we're probably giving Alejandro too much work right now, so we'll have to split it up.

My wife will hate me if I get it but I'll send in an application in the morning.

P.S. She won't really hate me, so you can pick me.

@Shoe Tempting, but I'll really have to mull this over some more. I'd love the chance to work with you all, and the ability to be a remote intern is nice, what with me not living on the West coast anymore, but I also don't want to commit to something that I later have to back out of. *Sigh* Decisions, decisions.

Any idea for when the deadline for submissions will be?

But... arent interns hired to be bossed around, fetching things, polishing shoes, become punching bags, Washers and/or toilets?

Why would you put your intern to work? I have my own here @ the office, in fact, "it" is writing this article for me as I dictate verbatim what I want to say here.

I guess Bitmob is one of those Start-ups with "morals" and "human decency".

Well Good Luck Shoe. Let me know how it turns out.

STFU AND TYPE THAT INTERN. YOU BETTER NOT HAVE TYPED THAT. GO AHEAD AND BAKE ME ANOTHER CHEESECAKE, and CHOCOLATE MILK THIS TIME, with the PINK CUP LIKE I SAID.

IM SERIOUS YOU BETTER NOT HAVE TYPED THA.....

I saw this. Thought nah (I was afraid of failing in front of the Bitmob overlords). I then reconsidered a mere 0.37 minutes later, opened my less childish named email account, let the thoughts flow, and shipped an email to Bitmob.

We treat our interns well at Bitmob. Right, Alejandro? I've only asked you to deliver a decapitated horse head to Lance once, right?

This sucks.

I just don't have the time for this.

School is my primary concern.

What exactly does being an intern entail? Do you provide 'it' some material and say "write about this INTERN DO IT NOW!!!" or do they have to ass-pull ideas themselves? I'd love to take a crack at this, but haven't exactly got a lot of money to go spend on games so I can write stuff about them.

I actually have a LOT of free time to write, and lately have started an anime blog to give myself something to do. I'm also on the west coast. I wonder if I could hack this.

Does merely being an observer of the Bitmob count as a major detriment?

If only my career didn't often preclude me from being available during the day for extended periods of time...

Good luck to all of the applicants. I'm sure they will have no trouble finding an interested, talented person to fill this role.

Sadly, I also fall in the "no time for hardly anything, let alone THIS" boat. With school and work it's just too much - usually I write my blogs during downtime at work, but fielding calls for an internship would probably be taking things a little too far. :)

Good luck to those applying!

Wish I could do this. Sadly I have no writing skills or time to do this. :( So I wish the person who does get this internship loads of luck.

Damn,I so want to do this, but this is my final year in school so I have to focus on that!

Also I live in Ireland so the time differences might have been too great anyway.

Good luck to all those applying!

I'm on the fence I don't mind the free part, I already help run another site for Valve just not sure I could do 2 sites for free. Wife wants me to make money. I just honestly like this site and what you guys have done.

Is there some sort of deadline on this? Or when we see a new intern we will know not to apply anymore?

*anxiously gnaws on nails*

But, my schedule has freed up even more now that I am not even leaving the state. Le sigh.
If only I had polished my writing skills since I first read EGM back in 2nd grade...Oh well, I'll leave it to the other guys then.
