Yes I am a 28 year old man with a wife and child. This maybe a game many would not think about picking up even in the used bin or low sale price. For me being a fan of the Saturday Morning TV show and a collector of the trading card game found in some stores it was not hard for me to play this game. Even with me liking those things it took me awhile to pick it up. For me it was all about pricing and I could not see myself spending forty dollars on this game new which is plain and simple.
Multi-player in this game should have been left off, but I know they put it in for the fans. Really though this game could have been great if they would have put more efforts into the single player side of this game. I have yet to find a single PS3 multi-player game session. If your a trophy or achievement person and want to get them all good luck.
The single player side is what captured my attention while playing through this game. Personally I didn't mind being the main character Tom as that is what the TV show focuses on as well. Even though the game is done in standard definition which I don't care about, but if someone tries this game you now know up front. You transverse this world by walking in a linear fashion from point a to point b. Along the way you will find scanable items, mugic (spells) and battlegear (armor) to help you during the battle phase. Trolling in this world you will not ever die to just go back to a main menu screen. When you die you will teleport back to a safe distance to retry what you were doing. Also you will see the creatures of Chaotic and interact with them by either talking or by battles as seen below.
During story mode you can unlock up to five slots for different creatures along your way. It plays as a turned based sequence fighting game. If you notice in the above photo across from the word ATTACK you see two green circles and a blue circle. Once you select your attack or mugic you will have a series of commands to press in a timely manner. If done correctly it will give a boost to what you have selected. For me I liked the defense phase, because you got to scan the creatures to add to your creature count.
For partly being based off a decent trading card game, I thought this implementation was awesome. Now would I have loved to see more creatures, of course I would have. However with the creatures that was brought to the table I think they were represented well and did a good job. With creatures from four different factions it will always be up to the player who they will want to use as each group has a different way of playing.
*I beat this game's story mode using Overworlders on the PS3. I got a 73% completion as I am missing only the MP trophies and the find all hidden areas. It took me about 7 hours to play. This game is also available for the Wii and Xbox 360*
