What is the newest game that you worked on?
The latest game i have worked on is "Bounce!". This game is a independent title that was self-funded. This game is a adventure game in away. The game has many elements including puzzles, platforming and collecting items.
What is the accomplishment your are most proud of?
The best accomplishment for me is our first title "Varion" which was a HL2 total conversion modification. This project learnt us alot about games and marketing. The biggest challenge was how to meet deadlines and how to efficiently work as a team and create content every week and then have a playable version to test to ensure it's fun. This project got closed down first time around as we didn't have much of a clue of how to do certain aspects of the source engine. We then came back at it due to popular demand from our community supporting us and then released the first version within 6 months of work then 1.0 a few months after.
Do you consider yourself an Indie dev?
Yes we do now, we used to do modifications but we have just released our first indie game "Bounce!" which went on sale just over 3 months ago now and has done really well. We have almost broke even on the project which is all we ever wanted as this is just a hobby we aren't in it for the money just want some money to help support us more so we can get even better resources. This helps to always keep a constant flow of updates to the game with us getting more money to spend on new tools to make the game look better.
Why did you start developing games?
I first started out creating modifications in source engine when i was about 11 - 12 (age). I started work in hammer engine working for over 6 years on it mastering it to the point were i could create levels in under a hour for a big detailed environment with full optimizing techniques. I then started slowly learning more tools while level designing and then i worked on a number of modifications until finally creating my own projects. Then it went in a flash and i was creating my own game which was an awesome feeling when you made your own standalone title which has done really well.
What sparked your inspiration for the game Bounce?
The concept behind the game came from a number of areas really. I tend to watch a lot of videos showcasing people throwing ping-pong balls in cups and doing trickshots around the house etc. I liked this idea so i originally wanted to do a game similar to beer pong. I was looking at play.com when i seen some toys that shot balls and this idea evolved from those concepts into a large game with multiple stages.
What games do you play?
I play a wide selection of games from (Halo to Fable) as i love to explore different genres this helps me when making my own games and keeping things fresh. I have a Xbox 360 and PC so i play games on those platforms.
Any hints at a new game or a sequal?
We currently don't have any ideas for a new title or sequel yet as we are pretty busy with university and life but we will be working on something someday just waiting for that spark of a idea to ignite :D.
