Did you know that July is National Ice Cream Month? Neither did I. I looked it up, Wikipedia is never wrong. For today only, one of the first games I ever download, Scoops, is free.
Scoops is a silly game where you catch falling ice cream scoops into your cone using the iPhone accelerometer. The more scoops you catch, the better your score. It's a nice app to have for your kids (or girlfriend) because it doesn't require much thinking. Just catch the delicious ice cream flavors that drops from the sky (they even have chocolate chip mint) and avoid the veggies like onions and tomatoes. The higher your cone the more further our of space you get. I'm not making this up. Try it out for yourself. iTunes Store link.
Other news and notes:
What's on sale?
A lot of games as of late are on sale and I'm not complaining. This is done because of smart advertising and marketing by getting these games in people's hand. (Are you taking notes Microsoft?! Your Xbox Deal of the Week is lame compared to all these bargain price deals!)
Gamevil has their best selling action/adventure RPG game Zenonia on sale for $2.99 (50% off). If you are a fan of The Legend of Zelda and mini quests, this game is by far one of the best RPGs on the iPhone today and you can get it for this great price for over 40 hours of gameplay.
My only gripe about this game is the tiny HUD they have on the screen when it is time to manage your character. I wish they would just make it full screen. Another gripe is the virtual d-pad but a recent update improved moving your character around. All this is overlooked by the animation and charm of the game. Highly recommended. iTunes Store link.
Other games on sale:
Clue (EA) - $2.99 (40% off) I never played the board game and I have seen the ending to the movie. But I heard the butler did it. iTunes Store link.
Tiazzle (Dreamship, Inc.) - $2.99 (25% off). Like a jigsaw puzzle but in a shape of a triangle. Sounds easy but there's a lot of thinking involved. This game has fluid and organic gameplay that separate itself from other puzzle games with a changing environment and your puzzle pieces are alive. Even though Triazzle has been an innovative puzzle game since the early 90s, having it on the iPhone is the best mashup you can ask for. It's perfect for kids with an in-game option for beginners but still challenging enough for adults. iTunes Store link.
Occurro! (Acceleroto) $0.99 (50% off) - Thanks to our favorite British accent friend John Davison for this recommendation. The game is worthy enough to be a Geometry Wars clone with clever gaming controls and good graphics. iTunes Store link. You can check out the trailer below:
Later this week, I will have my review of my favorite game on the iPhone "Zombieville", introduce "What I've been touching" and much more.
