Three adjectives to describe yourself: Magnificent, Mind-blowing, Modest
What do you like best about BITMOB?: Intelligent design, intelligent writing, intelligent community, intelligent, intelligent, intelligent...
You could probably figure out everything you ever wanted to know about me through Google (my name isn't exactly common). Just in case you're not the stalkerish type, I'm the taller person in the above picture, with the beard and fake Rolex. The shorter one with the shirt that says "I less than three geeks" (you can figure it out) is my fiancee.
For those interested in my background, I grew up in an environment that was completely anti-gaming. To get the occasional fix, I was forced to spend exorbitant amounts of time at my friends' houses, eventually becoming better than them at Mike Tyson's Punchout and Contra, much to their dismay.
Gaming however, didn't really become a fixture in my life until I left home for college, where I had slightly more freedom and money to spend.
Since then, PC gaming has been a staple, constituting approximately 99% of my videogaming experience. I find the keyboard, mouse, and monitor interface to be much more engaging than the prevalent console controller and television interface. I'm also a major tech junkie, and enjoy building and troubleshooting PCs. Blue Screens of Death turn me on.
A couple of months ago I started a blog (http://useyourmousegaming.blogspot.com/), mostly for myself, due to the fact that the academic and work environments that I reside in aren't much different from the one that I grew up in. Most of the people that I call friend, peer, or boss have experienced videogaming only through the mainstream media.
As such, they're of the opinion that gaming is aimed at 10 year-old children, in order to turn them into obese, homicidal, sex-craving delinquents. I needed an outlet for my thoughts and feelings about gaming and the industry, and writing provides exactly that.
Shortly after starting the blog I discovered Bitmob, and thought it would be a much better place to share my thoughts and generate discussion.
My past experience, or lack thereof, with gaming has certainly shaped my writing point of view. I believe I lack the cynicism that so many in the videogame journalism industry seem to possess because, unlike them, I didn't really grow up with gaming.
I'm also much more interested in games as emotional experiences, than games as toys, programs, or mechanics, which I try to reflect in my writing on trends in the industry and game reviews.
Outside of videogaming I enjoy a number of other hobbies, including cooking and food review. I'm a recipe tester for an established culinary website, and maintain another blog in which my fiancee and I post a dish we've prepared on a daily basis (she does the baking, I do the cooking). If you like food as much as I do, check it out http://gastronomicexploits.blogspot.com/.
Lastly, I suppose I'll list those games that have had the biggest impact on me. In no particular order: Half-Life, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Half-Life 2, Psychonauts, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Diablo, Baldur's Gate II, Team Fortress 2, Duke Nukem 3D.
I look forward to getting to know everyone on Bitmob a lot better, and to reading more great articles in the future. Feel free to email me about anything at useyourmouse@gmail.com, I enjoy getting spam.
