This is What the New Assassin's Creed Could Look Like.

Ubisoft showed the image to the right to the gaming press recently. It might possibly (OK, probably) be the next game in the Assassin's Creed series after Bloodlines releases this holiday.

Some have expressed displeasure that the series will be returning to the Middle East, rather than some other, more visually different, setting.

To those people I offer these images.

Crowds.

More crowds.

Would you see this in the first Assassin's Creed?

By Sea.

Dress makes all the difference.

Again, notice the clothing.

Ancient Egypt is a much different beast that the previous settings from the Assassin's Creed series. There are a number of similarities, but monolithic pyramids and Tombscavernous tombs should offer a nice contrast to the arcitecture we are used to seeing from the series. The dress and cultures are also pretty vastly different, which should add some really nice flair.

While I do understand people wanting the series to develop and grow, rather than just provide a new city with each iteration, I also expect Ubisoft to announce some interesting changes the weapons and gameplay that we have come to know and love from Assassin's Creed.

Assassin's Creed 2 was my favorite game from last year, and has a good shot at being one of my favorite games of all time as long as Ubisoft doesn't manage to dash my fond memories by rushing out sequels without restraint. Having two games in develpment at one time is a very good reason for some to be skeptical, but until we know more I do think it is worth exploring the potential of what has been hinted in the released image.

Ancient Egypt would be an awesome setting for this series! I offer this pic of Karnak:

If they go to Egypt and have little to no Egyptian looking people...it will be a step back for gaming.

I agree 100%. Egypt has such potential, but they need to really immerse themselves in it for it to work. In many cases the most interesting places in Egypt are not as surrounded by buildings. They need to figure out how to have more open space, but still offer the great platforming/exploration of the previous games. Climbing around INSIDE of pyramids could be cool- especially if they get creative and think outside the box on what could have been happening in them.

Having spent the past semester studying the ancient Near East, I think the cities of Uruk and Babylon would be more interesting -- large population, lots of buildings, interesting architecture, and loads of monumental structures. Ancient Egypt didn't really have cities.
