Or
Bitmob Featured Community Writer: Alex Martin

The Bitmob Featured Community Writer is a series where we focus on you, the Bitmob community member. We dust off your old articles and give you your just reward: more eyeballs on your work. We're featuring some of your favorites, some you may have overlooked, and maybe even you!

Let's go across the pond to meet our latest featured community writer. Alex Martin is a very active British/Welsh Bitmobber and has become one of my favorites for his wit and ability to relate the real world to video games. His attitudes stand very left of center, and he can relate his point of view judiciously without being overbearing.

Not unlike many Bitmob members, Alex aspires to join the enthusiast press, attempting to convert a lifelong passion for video games and his skill with the written word into a paying career. He has community member Frank Anderson's vote -- he nominated Alex for featured community writer.

Alex also writes for CastMedium, and you can follow his thoughts through @ADewiM on Twitter.

Meet the Mob: Alex Martin -- Learn a little bit more about Alex and a lot more about teenage drinking and muggings in the United Kingdom (and which one is legal).

Front-page posts

PETA Just Don't Understand -- Alex, a vegetarian, examines PETA's skewed commentary on video games and provides some balance. Quote of note: "I would say that not including pit bulls would be a disservice to the breed and the victims of dog attacks."

Will Wikis Kill off the FAQ? -- As part of our walkthrough callout, Alex wrote an excellent article that discusses the new form of video-game help: the wiki. Quote of note: "Hitting CTRL+F may eventually get you somewhere in a walkthrough, but you'll have to work to find what you're looking for. And manually searching through a book? That's for losers."

Screwups Worse Than the ApocalyPS3 -- When PlayStation 3s across the world shut down for a day earlier this year, Alex reminded us that we've experienced much worse. Quote of note: "You couldn't play your PS3 for 24 hours? Boo hoo! Every year, I have to send my shoddily produced 360 to Germany in a little cardboard coffin I keep around for the occasion."

From the Mobfeed

Party Games: Election -- If you don't know anything about British politics, let Alex fill you in with these comparisons to video games. Quote of note: "They are openly anti-immigration, though, so Space Invaders would be perfect for them -- just replace the alien sprites with nonwhites."

Kana: Little Sister Review -- I will never understand some games that come out of Japan, and I don't think Alex will, either. I'm thankful Alex played this game so I don't have to. Quote of Note: "If you don't mind your brain being assaulted by incestuous themes and an extremely depressing story, it's the most emotionally exhaustive and effective drama I've seen in a video game."

Kana: Little Sister

Modern Warfare, Hotel Rwanda, and "Non-Fun" Games -- War provides inspiration for some of the best action and human drama in film. Video games can do one, but they haven't done the other...although Alex argues we may be see more intelligent war-based efforts. Quote of note: "Infinity Ward has to make a big dumb action game to sell units, but being guaranteed millions of sales through the Call of Duty brand, Activision's marketing and their ability to design good games, they can insert an experimental bit that any less well-positioned developer wouldn't get away with."

Nice work, Alex! I liked your PS3 piece the most, as the overreaction to the situation was mind-boggling. Andrew: Thank you for this series. I look forward to each piece in it.

Congrats Alex!

I am always so glad when a new piece by Alex pops up on Bitmob. He is always funny and most of his articles come from a very different angle than I would have ever thought of. There are a bunch of Bitmobbers who I really hope succeed in games journalism and Alex is right there at the top!

Yahoo!!!!!

I agree with everything Frank said, and would like to add that Alex is the sexiest Englishman I know!

@ Lance And I would like to reciprocate and say you're the sexiest Yank I know. :p

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. I've never thought of myself as funny. Glad you don't think I'm overbearing also, Andrew. I was a little worried about coming off preachy. :)

Yeah, Alex isn't really capable of writing a shitty article.  Everything I've read by him has been pure gold! Congrats on being featured Alex!  You deserve it man!

He is dreamy.

Yes! Bitmob got some great new writers around the start of the year. Not sure how we managed without people like Alex here.

Congrats Alex. Glad you got your due. Andrew, keep these up! I Always a great read.

Congrats, and thanks for all the stuff to read!
